INDIAN HILLS CIVIC CLUB

A Year of Progress, Community & Giving Back

Over the past year, our Civic Club Board and members have worked together to make the clubhouse, park, and surrounding neighborhood more welcoming, functional, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

This year has been about more than maintaining our facilities. It has been about bringing neighbors together, creating opportunities for members to participate, raising funds, saving the club money, improving our shared spaces, and building a stronger sense of community.

BRINGING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER

Bourbon Boys Event
The Bourbon Boys event brought many neighbors together while raising money for improvements to the clubhouse. Funds raised helped purchase 60 new padded chairs, tables, and tablecloths, making the clubhouse a friendlier and more comfortable place for everyone to gather.

Donut Love — Valentine’s Day Celebration
Members created all of the heart-themed decorations by hand and prepared homemade donuts from scratch on Valentine’s Day morning, along with mock mimosas. Every lady attending received a red rose in a vase to take home. The Board and several members personally covered the cost of the event, meaning there was no cost to the club. Purchased decorations were also donated to the clubhouse for future use.

Game Night
We introduced neighborhood game nights and hope to make these a monthly event, giving neighbors another opportunity to get together, have fun, and get to know one another.

Coffee & Card
We started Coffee & Card on the first Wednesday of every month, creating a relaxed opportunity for everyone in the neighborhood to come together, visit, and enjoy time with neighbors.

CPR Classes
Two CPR classes were offered to the neighborhood — one specifically geared toward new moms and grandparents and another open to everyone in the community.

Annual 4th of July Parade
We continued the annual 4th of July parade and held a successful breakfast beforehand, giving neighbors another opportunity to celebrate together.

2nd Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Neighborhood Appreciation Event
We held our second annual Spaghetti Dinner as a neighborhood appreciation event and incorporated a food drive to give back to those in need.

IMPROVING OUR CLUBHOUSE & COMMUNITY FACILITIES

Throughout the year, numerous projects were completed to improve the appearance, safety, accessibility, and functionality of our shared facilities.

Clubhouse Improvements

• Updated both bathrooms and made them ADA compliant.
• Our Board President, Ray/RAMCO, donated toilets and labor for installation.
• Updated emergency lighting.
• Replaced outlets with GFI outlets to improve safety and accessibility.
• Repaired lights at the park and clubhouse that had not worked for years.
• Pressure washed the clubhouse.
• Removed steel rods and replaced exterior timbers, eliminating a safety and trip hazard.
• Mulched areas around the clubhouse and added additional rock to help prevent weeds from returning.
• Cleaned out and reorganized the office, making it walkable, functional, and organized.
• Freshened the clubhouse décor with options for different events and holidays.
• Created a photo gallery wall.
• Added black, white, and green fabric tablecloths for future events.
• Purchased a 75-inch television, stand, internet, and streaming service so the clubhouse can be used for future sporting events, movie nights, and other gatherings.

Park & Point Improvements

• Members cleaned up outside the clubhouse and pulled weeds.
• Trees at the Point were trimmed and debris was removed.
• Park cleanup was completed, including picking up neighborhood debris and branches for burning.
• Repaired the memory bench that had been broken for years.
• Purchased 16 American flags with lights to display at the Point and pond during patriotic holidays.
• Replaced an exposed electrical box at the Point. Ray provided an electrician to complete the work at no cost to the club.
• Coordinated with Texas A&M and Texas Parks & Wildlife regarding the nutria problem at the pond.

Practical Improvements & Cost Savings

Mailbox Installed
A mailbox was installed so the club no longer needs to maintain a PO Box, creating an ongoing savings for the club.

Insurance Savings
Our Board Treasurer, Ann, reviewed and shopped the club’s insurance coverage. She found a better coverage policy that saved the club $900.

Air Conditioning
The clubhouse air conditioning system was replaced, helping ensure the facility remains comfortable and usable for members and community events.

FUNDRAISING & FINANCIAL SUPPORT

This Board has put on three successful fundraisers, generating money for the club while also receiving significant support through donations of supplies, merchandise, food, auction items, labor, and other resources.

1st Annual BBQ Contest & Fundraiser

Our first annual BBQ contest raised $1,170 for the club.

Even more importantly, the Board and several members donated the supplies and winning baskets, meaning there was no cost to the club to hold the fundraiser.

Indian Hills Hats

We designed and embroidered Indian Hills hats to sell, creating another opportunity to generate funds while promoting pride in our community.

Tropical Paddle/Quarter Auction

We hosted a fun, tropical-themed paddle/quarter auction. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our members, more than 50 items were donated for the auction.

The event raised $1,700 for the club.

Western-Themed Fundraiser

Our Western-themed fundraiser included live music and food and generated funds that were used to purchase a 75-inch television, stand, internet, and streaming service for the clubhouse.

In addition to the clubhouse improvements, the event generated an additional $900 for the club.

These fundraisers demonstrate what can happen when our members work together, donate their time and resources, and support their community.

GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY

Our Civic Club is not only about maintaining our own facilities. We also want to support the surrounding community.

Scenic Loop Fire Department

The club donated $1,000 to the Scenic Loop Fire Department in support of our local first responders.

At our yearly Christmas party, we alway do a toy drive.

This year at our neighborhood appreciation spaghetti dinner, we also held a food drive for MannaFest.

GETTING MORE MEMBERS INVOLVED

We created three new committees:

• Fundraising Committee
• Events Committee
• Service Committee

These committees give ALL members an opportunity to participate and volunteer in ways that fit their interests, schedules, and abilities.

You don’t have to attend every meeting or every event to make a difference. There are many ways to contribute, and we want every member to have an opportunity to be involved.

BETTER COMMUNICATION

We updated the Civic Club website to make it easier for members to find information about the club, events, activities, and community resources.

We also created an email list to provide updates about club activities and upcoming events. This has helped improve communication while saving the club the expense of mailing quarterly newsletters.

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH

This year, the Indian Hills Civic Club has reached increased membership by over 30%.

That is an important milestone for our community and reflects increased participation and interest in the Civic Club.

More members means more neighbors connected, more people with opportunities to participate, and a larger community working together to make Indian Hills a great place to live.

LOOKING AHEAD

We are proud of what has been accomplished, but there is still more we would like to do.

FUTURE PROJECTS

• Refresh the exterior of the clubhouse.
• Explore adding a frisbee golf course at the park.
• Clean out and organize the shed/barn at the park.
• Explore adding a swing set near the pond/clubhouse.
• Replace fluorescent lights in the clubhouse with dimmable canned lighting.
• Continue improving the clubhouse and park based on the needs of our members.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY — HAVE MORE FUN!

We want to create at least one fun event every month for our neighbors.

Life gets busy. People travel. Families have activities. Not everyone can attend every event, and that’s okay.

Our goal is to create enough opportunities throughout the year that if you miss one event, there will be another opportunity the following month to come out, meet your neighbors, have fun, and be part of the community.

TOGETHER, WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The past year has been about more than projects, fundraisers, and improvements.

It has been about neighbors helping neighbors.

It has been about members donating their time, talents, supplies, labor, and resources.

It has been about finding ways to save the club money while making improvements.

It has been about creating more opportunities for people to participate.

And it has been about making the Indian Hills clubhouse and park places where our neighbors want to gather.

Thank you to every Board member, committee member, volunteer, donor, fundraiser participant, and neighbor who has contributed this year.

Every donation, every hour of volunteer work, every event attended, and every idea shared has helped move our community forward.
