Annual 4th of July Independence Day Parade

GUIDELINES and OVERVIEW

The July 4th Independence Day Parade has been an annual event in our community for many years.  This celebration brings our community together in a patriotic way; residents and their guests look forward to this lively event.

The celebration is a parade followed by hot dogs, Frito pies, drinks, and watermelon.  The date of the parade depends on where the actual 4th of July falls on the calendar.  If the 4th falls on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, then the Parade will be held the Saturday before.  Otherwise, the Parade will be held on the morning of the 4th.

Parade participants can be golf carts, bicycles, 4 wheelers, lawnmowers, trailers, etc. The entries will line up under the trees on the south side of the pond.  Larger vehicles should stay on the street behind the Parade Marshall vehicles.

4th of July Parade Entries:  What are the judges looking for in an entry?

1. Originality and creativity:

a.  One-of-a-kind entry that really stands out from the others.

b.  The overall design is creative and original.

c.  The use of props, participants, and/or music really rocks.

2. Workmanship:

a.  The construction of the entry’s elements is neatly done.

b.  The details and design use colors and materials effectively.

c.  These neighbors put in a lot of effort on this entry.

3. Parade theme and spirit:

a.  It’s important that the entry reflect the 4th of July spirit…

b.  Uncle Sam would love to see this entry in a 4th of July Parade!

Parade participants sign in at 9:30 a.m., and the parade begins promptly at 10:00.

  • The Parade starts and ends at the Community Center, 171 Olympic Drive.
  • The sign-in sheets will be on a table set up in front of the Center.
  • Each participant comes to the table and writes his or her name, address, and phone number on the sign-in sheet.
  • The sign-in slots on the sheets are numbered; a participant receives 2 paper plates (and masking tape) which correspond to their number on the sheet. The participants then fix their plates to the front of the vehicle and to the side, so the judges can see them clearly.  (The side plate position will depend on that year’s parade route.)

After the parade, everyone is invited to the Clubhouse for our 4th of July hot dogs, Frito pie, and watermelon.  Our Civic Club President, will announce the first, second and third place parade entry winners, and trophies will be awarded to the winning parade participants.  Three judges are selected prior to the parade and should be uninterested in potential winners.
